Biography

Philip de Rooij was born January 1976 in Arnhem, The Netherlands. He spent his youth in Zutphen, an old city near the river called the IJssel. By spending much time at that river, he developed his sense for nature, organic forms and space.

After two trade training degrees and a technical math degree, he moved to Amsterdam and he started to follow higher professional education engineering study at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, with purpose to become an architect. After he had been working as a broker in real estate, he started working in the internet business, where he was creating and responsible for all the photographs and picture material. After the company he worked got bankrupt, he was at a crucial time in his life. His overpowering feelings to create, could not stop him any longer.

Since his earliest youth, he liked to draw and spent most of his time doing so. Also now his drawings form the basis for his paintings. He paints mainly in oil on canvas, but he applies other techniques also.

His paintings arise by emotional thoughts and by visualizing his ideas. Freedom is one the head topics, that he with his visual orientated mind and in combination with his fantasy, express in many ways. Also the heavier emotions of life are a source of inspiration. The mainly surrealistic and abstract paintings, are combined with detailed fragments.
